The other day my cousin Kathy gave birth to the first little girl in our family in over eighteen years! Rebecca "Becca" Carol Condon was born on October 5th 2011 weighing 8 pounds exactly and was 20 inches long.
It was a sad and joyous day for our family, mainly joyous! Becca would have been the light of my aunt Sue's life if she were still here with us. My aunt was a truly amazing woman and it's a shame her time with us was so short - but she made a lasting impression on us all! She showed her family love, kindness and so much more, and hopefully little Miss Rebecca who takes her late Grandmother's name (Carol) will be just like her! I think she already is the spitting image of her look wise, she was born during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and weighed and measured exactly was my Aunt Sue did with she was born sixty years ago. It's amazing the things God does that make you stop and remember those you loved and see that pieces of them are still with you!
Sunday we celebrated Grandmom Franks' 90th birthday party! Zatha and Ted set it up so the entire Franks family, near and far, as well as all of Grandmom's loved ones could be there to celebrate with her at the Riverwalk restaurant in Yorktown. The Franks' clan is beyond lucky to have such a wonderful woman in their lives, she truly loves her family and she was beyond excited to have everyone there to celebrate with her . . . and seeing them all in their derby hats!
Last Saturday, Nick and I went roaming around Smithfield and Surry. It was a really nice day and the drive was so much fun! We took my camera and my Dad's camera along for the ride so I could get some pictures for class and get some practice in. We passed this one barn or barns that were really torn down, but they were beautiful! I love Rustic America. As we drove through downtown I saw two churches that I really liked, it's something about the way churches are built, especially older ones. Finally we went to Bacon's Castle, which was unfortunately closed to inside tours because it's still kind of torn up from the hurricane. But we went cotton pickin'!
I took advantage of this beautiful weather (the calm after the storm) and went to Yorktown with little Miss Sassy Pants to get in some camera time for a school assignment. It was a fun adventure and of course, it started with a trip to Plaza (that girl can down some guacamole!). I had the intentions of taking Hailey to explore Colonial Williamsburg, but Yorktown seemed like a better idea since it was closer. Besides myself as a child, I have never seen a kid so excited to find canons and hidden canons in the trenches. We wandered around for a few hours, Hailey got a history lesson and we snapped some pictures for my assignment . . . Hailey even got a chance to work the camera (meaning I trusted my new camera to a six year old!).
